Welcome to the Terence O’Grady Social Club!

Recipients of the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2016.

What is TOG?

The Terence O’Grady Club provides social and leisure activities for those over the age of 16 with a learning disability. The club is named in memory of its founder, Dr Terence O’Grady, who was the Divisional Medical Officer of Health for the Lancashire County Division during the 1950s. The first meeting was held in 1961.

Since that time, and with the help of many dedicated people, the club has developed into the great success it is today with more than 80 members attending its Tuesday evening meetings at St Anne’s ARLFC, Higginshaw Road, Oldham OL1 3JY.

Affiliated to Royal Mencap, TOG is a registered charity No. 1049548 where members, supported by two professional club leaders, and a team of experienced volunteers, meet in a safe environment to socialise with friends.

The club provides a varied programme with live entertainment usually twice a month and a disco at the end of each month where the bar is open. Bingo is slotted in from time to time. There is a pool table for members to use and often indoor bowls is provided. Members can also work on jigsaws, use a laptop computer or tablets and play dominoes.

The club has received many accolades including The Pride of Oldham Award, The Mencap Long Service Award and most prestigiously, ‘The Queens Award for Voluntary Service.’

Weekly Activities

There are two rooms at the club. The large Hall is where most of the members meet and where the live entertainment performs. The smaller Hall is where jigsaws and the laptop can be found. It is also a space for those who prefer a quieter environment.

Donate

Here at TOG we pride ourselves on enriching the lives of vulnerable members of our community. Through conversation, play, music and dance the club is a high point of the week for many of our members. Unfortunately we need help to keep providing the best possible support to our members. If you are in the fortunate position to be able to donate financially to the club we’d be eternally gratefull.
